Kerala keen on big investment projects

Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy said the state government would offer more thrust to projects that are capable of utilising the full potential of the state's resources, both in terms of infrastructure and manpower.

He dedicated Infopark Phase II campus to the state, saying the government was committed to bringing in more investments for creating new job opportunities.

Principal secretary for IT and industries PH Kurian said the Phase-II Infopark project would be completed by 2020, and was expected to generate around 80,000 employment opportunities.

An over one million IT workspace with futuristic amenities would be opened for business by 2015-end with the completion of Infopark's own 400,000 sft IT building and 1.3 million sft Cognizant Phase-I building. Once fully operational, the project is expected to create eight million sft modern IT space.

For the development of the Rs 2,500-crore Phase II project, Infopark has joined hands with several global IT companies and infrastructure developers like Cognizant Technologies, UST Global, Trans Asia, Muthoot Group, Media Systems, Claysys Technologies, Caspian Techparks and Padiyath Innovation.

Around 60 per cent of the land in the second phase had been leased out successfully to IT/ITeS companies and co-developers. The Phase-II project is spread in 160 acres, of which, Infopark has leased out 125 acre so far. Out of this, 102 acre had been notified as the IT Special Economic Zone.

Unlike Phase-I, the Phase-II campus is designed as a walk-to-work township with several facilities to complement the mainstream business. Apart from the IT & ITeS infrastructure, the campus would house an international school, shopping mall, hotel, convention centres and health care facilities.

Basic infra like power, internal roads, water lines and other communication facilities are already in place.

The work on a 220 KV gas-insulated substation at Phase II has been completed and is ready for a trial-run.

A three km four lane internal road has been built as per the ministry of road transport and highways specifications.
